EPM Version Comparison

Many users may not be aware of the changes within Project Server 2007 and Project Server 2003. Microsoft provided a very good comparison that may be of interest for some of you

Resource Plan

Isn't it excellent that you can actually create a resource plan for your project now. This will make resource planning much easier. I wonder why you can only plan for "real" resources and not for generic resources? This is most important if you have a large project and only know that "in 6 month time i need 20 Developers".

Resource management is hard as it is, it doesn't matter if you have tools or not, but at least if I can plan for generic resources as well, I can create a picture of what resources I require in the future.

Maintenance and Proposal Resourceing

I really like to Proposal and maintenance functionality of PWA ( especially because it is a PWA function. ) What I cannot understand is that you can only assign one resource to a task when you create your schedule. I would have thought that it would have not been so hard to allow users to choose more then one resource for a task. Lets hope that this may changes in the RTM.

Active What?

After starting to seriously using PWA there are certainly some parts that would need some special attention, but overall, the functionality of PWA has become so much better. Once they actually get writ of the Active X component our lives will be much easier.

Look at this

After beeing used to the PWA User Interface for such a long time now, it is very refreshing to look at the Project Server 2007 User Interface.

The only part that disapoints me, is that you can't "hide" the left side action bar. At least 2003 had an arrow where you could choose to look at the side bar.

I understand that WSS doesnt like the hiding, but from a User experience point of view, I believe the Microsoft team should have given us this option. What do you think?

Hello EPM World

Now that is quite an experience, since this is my first time "blogging" and it feels like..... No one will give a rats ass of what I write :) Never mind. Let's hope there is an EPM world out there that is actually interested.

Let's talk about ME :) My name is Marc Soester and I am a passionate EPM solution implementer from Australia. You may discover that my English is not up to scratch for an Australian, well that is because I am not Australian. I am a German living in Australia. Lets hope you understand most of what I write PLUS you can consider yourself lucky since I have a German accent that you can hear but cant read ( I hope ).

today's session will only act as a test post and the announcement of a great Microsoft site that you will be interested should you like EPM or Project Server or Portfolio Server or or or :)
Enjoy
